Print Media & Design

In my role with the student media programs at Floyd Central High School, I collaborate closely with yearbook staff to bring their creative visions to life. Instead of outsourcing design work to professional graphic artists through publishing companies, I work directly with students to develop and refine their concepts. Together, we transform their rough sketches and ideas into polished, publication-ready designs. This hands-on process not only helps them see their themes fully realized but also empowers them to understand design as both an artistic and journalistic tool. Each piece represents a partnership between student imagination and professional execution.

2024-25 It Means More Here

Our most recent yearbook, It Means More Here, captures the heart of our school through a design that balances fun, brightness, and sophistication, all while staying true to our school colors. From the start, our staff envisioned a look that felt bold and full of spirit, yet elevated and timeless. We also wanted to showcase the incredible talent of our photographers, especially through the use of striking black and white images that highlight emotion and storytelling. Together, we collaborated on design upgrades that brought our vision to life—from the dynamic cut-out lettering of the theme on the cover to creative photo cut-outs used throughout the pages. The result is a book that feels both fresh and meaningful, a visual reflection of why life at our school truly means more.

2023-24 The Beginning of an Era

Our yearbook, The Beginning of an Era, takes inspiration from Taylor Swift’s iconic Eras Tour poster to create a design that’s both trendy and timeless — a true celebration of student life. The staff wanted a look that felt fun, current, and full of personality, while also prioritizing representation by showcasing as many students as possible throughout the book. Together, we developed a vibrant color system used intentionally in different sections to connect the visual and verbal elements of the theme. Every design choice — from the eye-catching rainbow foil signatures on the cover to the creative spin on a tour date poster for the table of contents — was made with care and collaboration. The result is a cohesive, high-energy design that captures not just a year, but the beginning of an era for our school community.

2022-23 Floyd

Our yearbook, Floyd, marked a bold creative shift for our staff — our first chronologically organized book with a sleek, magazine-inspired aesthetic. The goal was to elevate our storytelling through a polished, editorial style that emphasized clean design, custom fonts, and a simplified color palette. To bring the concept to life, we collaborated closely with our staff photographers on a dramatic photoshoot featuring our mascot and a smoke bomb effect, using a range of editing techniques to enhance the mood and capture that modern magazine energy. Throughout production, we focused on blending strong visuals with smart design—from detailed maps to thoughtfully crafted graphics—to create a cohesive, professional look. The result was a sophisticated, editorial-style yearbook that pushed our design skills and storytelling in exciting new directions.
